Only time will tell if signing Derek Lowe will pay off in the long term, but in the short term the signing is already paying dividends. Many fans (and players I imagine) have wondered how serious the Braves about winning now? The answer is: serious. They mean business. Not that we’d expect anything less from a team being coached by Bobby Cox, but brining Lowe in, and spending the money it took to bring him in, shows that this is the case.

There are a couple of reasons why I love this signing. First, he is a great pitcher with postseason experience. Second, the Mets were also trying to sign him, so signing him stopped them from getting him. Third, if he starts to break down, we can move him to the bullpen. He was a very good closer for the Red Sox at one time.
Matt, good points.
One other point is that he can handle the pressure of being the ace of the staff. That is why we are bringing him in. This takes a lot of pressure off of Vasquez and Jurrjens and allows them to not worry about the guy. Which in turn will also pressure off of Kawakami and Campillo. What I am trying to say is I love our starting five.
I think Kawakami and Lowe might be better for the team that AJ by himself would have been. Think about that one. Aren’t you glad he turned us down now?
